Operations Manager

Overview of the Role
MakerBay is a fast growing startup. We are looking for an Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of the company to ensure smooth operation and provision of services to our members and clients. Your role is critical to the growth of the company.
As Operations Manager, you will oversee all daily operations and manage multiple projects at the same time. You will report directing to the Founder and Director of MakerBay.

You responsibilities will include:

  • Admin, finance and human resources: implement and manage
  • Project Management
  • Membership: Develop and manage
  • Facility: Ensure the functioning and maintenance of the facilities
  • Internal communications: manage a diverse and passionate team
  • External communications: marketing
  • Event organising: e.g. Summer Citizen Science Faire, Maker Faire, members’ night etc.

Qualifications

At least 8 years of experience in operations, administration and human resources management, preferably with one or more organizations that have grown significantly.

  • Highly organised, detail oriented
  • Ability to manage people to complete excellent projects
  • Ready to get hands-on when the project needs it
  • Demonstrated experience with a social enterprise or startup
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both in English and Chinese
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with the judgment to know when to seek guidance.
  • Willingness to learn and experiment, persistent, conscientious and resourceful
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Experience in developing and implementing systems and policies of a company
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a passionate and diverse team
  • Navigates organizational infrastructures and environments to create pathways to communicate clearly and effectively and solve problems.

  • Energetically leads programs with enthusiasm and can build team spirit.

Summer Internship

We are recruiting for the following summer internship positions, whether you are interested in learning how to make, contribute your talent in marketing, or master your skills in project management, we have something exciting waiting for you this summer! 

Overview of the internship program

Position start date: June 2017

Position end date: September 2017

Report to: Managing Director and Program Manager

Time Commitment: Minimum 25 hours per week for 15 weeks (may need to work during off hours/weekends)

Location: Yau Tong or Central

*All interns will go through safety induction training of the use of tools and machines in our workshop.

**Stipend will be provided to cover expenses on transportation and meals.

1. Intern Program Assistant

MakerBay is looking for a highly motivated intern to help execute our programs this summer.

As a program intern, you will work closely with our team to help plan and execute programs of various sizes and nature. Your insightful contribution will help develop, execute and evaluate our programs.

This internship will help you acquire program execution skills and provide you with experience working in a fast growing social enterprise in the maker field. You will gain a broad experience in program management and should be prepared to enter any fast paced work environment including but not limited to private startups, nonprofits, or social enterprises.

 Main Responsibilities:

  • Help execute programs and events
  • Lead coordination effort with vendors and clients
  • Assist with impact measurement of programs
  • Provide administrative support to team
  • May require off-hour/weekend work as events may take place outside of office hours

Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to learn
  • Good command in English and Chinese
  • Currently working towards an academic degree or recent graduate (less than 6 months)
  • Interested in maker education and passionate about social and environmental issues
  • Familiar with Google Drive and other applications (Google doc, Google sheet, Google form, etc.)
  • Attention to detail
  • Driven and can work independently
  • Good team player
  • Experience in program management and coordination preferred but not necessary

2. Intern Technical Wizard

We are looking for someone who loves to work with machines, mechanical and electrical. You should love learning about how to use and better maintain them and getting your hands dirty!

You should have mechanical training, with electrical training a plus. 

Your work will include support the technical team in:

  • maintaining the workshop and the equipment, including: woodworking machines and tools such as mills, saws, drills, etc; digital machines such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines
  • delivering maker education program and relevant curriculum
  • organising other summer programs
  • promoting maker culture to the community 

Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to learn
  • Good command in English and Chinese
  • Currently working towards an academic degree or recent graduate (less than 6 months), preferably engineering, design or education related discipline
  • Familiar with the use of machines and coding is a plus but not necessary
  • Experience or interest in teaching is a plus 
  • Interested in maker education and passionate about social and environmental issues
  • Familiar with Google Drive and other applications (Google doc, Google sheet, Google form, etc.)
  • Driven and can work independently
  • Good team player

3. Intern Marketing Assistant

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform marketing analysis and research
  • Help manage and craft newsletters, social media posts and other marketing platforms
  • Work closely with designers to develop promotional materials
  • Prepare promotional presentations
  • Manage and update company database and customer relationship management systems

Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (in both English and Chinese)
  • Currently working towards an academic degree or recent graduate (less than 6 months), relevant degree in marketing or business development is a plus
  • Familiar with Google Drive and other applications (Google doc, Google sheet, Google form, etc.)
  • Interested in maker education and passionate about social and environmental issues
  • Detailed oriented, driven and can work independently
  • Good team player
